It’s official! …and vulnerably transparent.
Honored to be the Keynote Speaker for the Assistance League of the Eastside’s 2016 “Step into Style” fundraising luncheon! We beautifully align because my back story of hardship and violence matches the profile of the women and families who the ALE serves…and I’m an overcomer!
#IAmAnOvercomer and I share my story because it points to hope!
- When I was a young, living in condemned housing and low on funds, I received support from the local food bank
- I had been sexually assaulted twice under the age of 21 –yet have had tremendous healing by the healing graces of God and help of others
- Leaving a domestic violence marriage in 2001, I was educated, thus empowered, through LifeWire’s DV support group for 2+ years
- When Kelly and I were unexpectedly gifted the opportunity to be guardians for my teen nephew in 2014, I humbly said “YES” to help from Operation School Bell – not knowing about ALE, and certainly not perceiving I would be their keynote speaker one day
These are some of the services that the Assistance League of the Eastside helps make possible. They put caring and commitment into action through community-based philanthropic programs to make a positive difference in the lives of children and adults touched by hardship or violence.
It’s an absolute honor to be the voice and positive example of “what can be”. Thankfully, today I am thriving in who I was designed to be -having moved from survival to stability to success, and now significance – having the desire and ability to give back.
- I *know* I am worthy and lovable
- I am safe
- I have healthy boundaries
- I’m living my life on purpose
- I am feeling fulfilled and joyful…and
- I found the smile I thought would never come back!
